Ignore the ones that attach to the kitchen faucet. Look into the cartridge type that go under the kitchen sink.
The ones that look like a water pitcher do help take bad taste out of tap water. If you have bad well water-not so much.
personally, I think water filters for the home are useful including one on your faucets and showers.
I like Aquasana which we have installed in our house.
