Honeywell HHT-081 Tower Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter

I have noticed a slight difference in the morning when I wake up I don’t cough as much as I used to. However, the purifier has some major downsides. The biggest downside is the fact that it dries out the air. I can tolerate it but everyone else who comes into my living space has a difficult time. It is also very loud almost as loud as an air conditioner. So keep that in mind, I kind of wish I spent more money and went with the more trustworthy brand.

Seemed to clean the air pretty well and certainly liked the small-footprint tower design. But after a few months it now chatters loudly and is no longer useable. I didn’t see anything obvious but sounds like something has broken internally. Guess I can get it fixed under warranty…if I can find the receipt. Decided to just replace it with a different model. I’ve good luck with Honeywell before but wouldn’t recommend this model.

I have severe allergies in September. I think ragweed is what does it and I live in Southern California, so the wildfires that spring up during this time don’t help. I use this filter during this time and it helps me so much. I go from having hay fever to just having a stuffy nose. If you have ever had hay fever, then you know stuffy nose is a great improvement. I have used this in an 8×8 office, a 12×12 bedroom and in a 15×20 room. Obviously the smaller the room, the more effective, but I think it helps in the larger room as well. I use it with a portable A/C in the largest room, so that A/C is pushing out air and filtering the inside air as well. Without bringing in new air from outside.
I think it works well and makes a slight humming noise on the lower settings. A bit of a rattle on the highest setting. I can’t sleep with it on high. The 2 lower settings are actually great white noise for sleeping. It is light and easily portable.

I just honestly do not think this thing does anything. I bought this for the kitchen to replace the Honeywell HHT-011 (which worked very well but broke due to a fall) because we can smell cigarette smoke from first floor tenants coming up from under the kitchen sink cabinet. When I walk into the kitchen the whole room smells like smoke, whereas the previous Honeywell we had when pointed at the cabinet would suck the smell up immediately and we could never smell it. I really wanted this to work, it is attractive and sleek looking as far as air filters go, but I really think after two months of having it that all it does is use electricity, I don’t actually think it works.

Quiet as advertised. I use this next to my audio equipment to keep dust from DVD players and recorders. Small footprint perfect for this if turned sideways.
