It is hard water. We have a filter in our refigerator for our water and ive, but it still has little white particles in it. Does the reverse osmosis really help? Best ideas?

Reverse osmosis works great , and a whole house water softner works well too.
O’Fallon, MO? O’Fallon, IL?
I heard the Kenmore Sears countertop filter was great. I think I read that in Consumer Reports.
Little white particles are probably calcium.
Install a whole-house water filter. It’s a cylindrical filter about 3-4″ in diameter, and about a foot in length.
Install a water softener, so you have soft water for cleaning. Yes, it’s expensive, but when water evaporates in your clothes, you end up with little mineral crystals that cut your clothes to shreds as you wear them. Soft water also requires *much* less detergent or soap. In the end, the water softener ends up saving you more than it costs.
The water problem stinks because of sulfur. The water softener company can give you sulfur treatment. If you don’t treat it, the sulfur will end up in the air, and it will turn into sulfuric acid vapor. Your electronic devices won’t last long.
I recommend drinking and cooking with bottled water. At 69c a gallon for spring water, and $3 or more for a pound of coffee, it’s good economic sense.
Reverse osmosis works, but this isn’t what it’s intended to fix.
First: Collect a sample in a CLEAN, Clear bottle that you dont mind loosing. Make sure your sample has the stuff in it.
Second: Call your water company. Tell them how often this occurs and if there is any connection to the taste and the stuff in the water.
Third: Tell them you took a sample to show them. They should come out to investigate (even if they think its your pipes). Give them the sample. They should offer to flush the water meter as a precaution. If they dont offer, ask them to.
* I have had this happen before. It was my water heater. The water company is the best place to start.
i have the same problem in my area (northern wi) we use a whole house filter system. it’s pretty economical and effective even on the refridgerator’s ice-maker.
