I actually was expecting a better quality permanent filter but was disappointed. It a filter made of nylon or something like that surrounded by cardboard. It would have be far better to have made the filter washable and better quality. I do not believe that this filter will continue to work well just by vacuuming it, just will not hold up and I am not sure if the filter is replaceable.

I’ve been waging a long time battle with the dust mites in my room. They tend to aggravate my sinuses, which in turn affect my sleep quality.
I used to have a different Hamilton Beach filter that was ~$50 retail, and required new filters every 3 months. A couple months ago when I went to replace it, I saw they didn’t offer the replacement filter anymore at a reasonable price. That’s when I stumbled upon this filter. I wouldn’t recommend this for someone suffering from dust allergies.
You can still hear it on quiet mode, so I usually leave it off until the evening hours…and then I crank it to high for a bit in my bedroom before turning it off. It seems to do the job well enough, but if you suffer from dust allergies the way I do, I’d recommend more environmental controls rather than plunking down money on a low end filter like this.
Encase your sheets and pillows with mite-proof coverings. Vacuum all surfaces regularly, and wash sheets regularly. These will be more effective than this filter. And as a side bonus, your room will always be clean

I ordered this air filter after dealing with my friends’ allergies to my newly-acquired longhaired cat (himalayans are giant poofballs). His hair and dander combined with my shorthaired cat created a knockout effect on my allergic friends. As I like being around them AND my cats, I got a filter. Instead of immediately sneezing up a storm, my allergy-inclined friends can last several hours before being affected.
The filter also eliminates smell from the litterbox. It’s very powerful for its size and takes care of my entire one bedroom apartment. Having it plus using a carpet deodorizer every few days keeps my place manageable to those not super duper allergic to cats but allergic and sneezy nonetheless.
For full effect, I suggest using it in a room with the door shut on full blast for two or three hours. Afterward, for dander management keep it on the quiet setting. If I know people are coming over I turn it up higher and put it back on quiet when they’re around. It’s very quiet background noise, barely noticeable.
I haven’t had to clean the filter yet, but it is very easy to remove to do so.

For the price this has to be one of the quietest air purifiers I have bought.
Delivers a lot of air at minimal noise. I purchased one of the units for our guest bedroom was very impressed with the performance of the unit.
Although it has a permanent non replaceable filter that is cleaned by vacuuming the unit it is money well spend for a quality product.
I just ordered another for our computer room to replace a very noisy Honeywell desk model.
I give it five stars easily..

I ordered it to help eliminate the smell of cat feces. I do keep the box cleaned daily but it still smells when an animal eliminates. The odor has a way of lingering in the air. It works as far as it goes for sucking any particles floating through the air and I have found dust collecting on the filter. But it does not help in the area of eliminating the smell of cat feces. I made my decision based on another review that said it was purchased to help with litter box odors. For the price I basically bought an expensive dust collector and even then there isn’t that much dust found on the filter (which is hard to believe considering that I have 80% carpeting in my house).
