Culligan US-EZ-4 EZ-Change Level-4 Under-Sink Drinking Water System

After installing this filter and running it for more than a 1/2 hour and then waiting a few days the water still has a bitter taste in it.

I ordered this filter to replace a reverse osmosis water filter. The reverse osmosis filter produced delicious water but was very expensive to operate and did not produce as much water as we needed. I bought this particular filter after doing a lot of research on the web as to effectiveness of removing chemicals and particulates from tap water. I am assuming that the studies I read accurately reflect the efficacy of this filter, but the water it produces just doesn’t taste great. To produce good tasting water we are running the water from the Culligan thru a Brita. On the positive side, we have no issues with the faucet that we received as some reviewers have. It’s not the BEST I’ve ever seen, so maybe if you had kids that were harder on the faucet, it would break. But so far, it has functioned perfectly well for my husband and me.

Another great product that does what it’s supposed to do. Water tastes great again. Fairly easy to install.

Shortly after moving to a small, rural town we received a mandatory notice from the water company stating that they were in violation of some EPA mandate. So, we began looking into water filters. We originally went with one of those faucet-mounted type filters. For whatever reason our water was really hard on those particular filters–after about a week the water flow became very weak and we had to replace the filter every 3 weeks or so (for 2 people that seemed like a lot). That got old quickly and after doing some research, we decided to replace our faucet-mounted filter with the Culligan Level 4 system. It’s been a little over a year since we bought the system and overall I am pleased with it. It was fairly easy to install (and I’m no plumber) and we now replace filters every six months or so. The only drawback is the plastic faucet that comes with this kit. We were actually able to install the faucet without any problems, but it broke after 8-9 months. We replaced it with a model we found at our local hardware store and haven’t had any problems since.

Before you start this project, make sure to track down your Teflon tape. Also- when you’re figuring out where to place the screws that hold the mounting bracket, be sure you have enough space above and also to the sides of the filter for the hoses. I found assembly to be pretty easy, even considering that I was under the kitchen sink in a very awkward position for a while!
The water tastes great. It comes out slow, but then it’s got a lot to get through in order to get to your glass. Did not get the dual stage filter b/c people convinced me that being on city water- nearly all sediment is already filtered from our water so the sediment filter is really not necessary.
